Maybe I’m just at the age where little things mean a lot, but just as I was getting ready to renew my ALPCA membership, I got an email from Eric Tanner advising me a 1965 Florida Lafayette County license plate had just been listed for auction on eBay…the county prefix for Lafayette was then 62-, and Eric knew I had been advertising for one for the past 10 years in the PLATES magazine…it and Hamilton County 56- were all I needed to complete the entire 67 county run!…I spent the next week watching eBay six times a day to see how the bid moved on that plate, which started very nominally at about $30…then while agonizing, I got another email from Jeff Francis, who was actually on safari in Kenya!…he also wanted to let me know about the plate…he said he only had ever seen just two of them in all his years of collecting…my tin tension went through the roof!…and lo and behold, when the auction finally closed, I had won the plate!!…Eric and Jeff are now permanently in my license plate hall of fame…for those of you collectors who have looked for years for a plate or two, you know what I mean…how great it is that we belong to a club of members who enjoy another fella’s score as much as they do their own!…now, where is that damn Hamilton County plate!?
